Fact vs. Fiction: How Honest Are Peoples Online Dating Profiles

| April 2, 2013

fact-or-fiction

Lets be honest, nobody is 100% truthful when it comes to creating their online dating profile. People will never directly say what they actually mean; instead they like to use a vague cliche to make themselves sound better. How many people do you know who actually go hiking? Because according to the online dating world it’s nearly everyone. This is clearly fiction and the fact is that everyone wants to believe they’re adventurous, but are usually to afraid too j-walk at a busy intersection. No matter the type of online dating site you using (adult dating site, casual dating site or free dating site) you will see the same fictitious cliches, but we need to uncover the underlying facts behind these fictions.

I’m Always The Life Of The Party

FACT: People love to pint out how much fun they are. Most people are capable of having a good time, but if someone describes themselves as the life of the party their friends would probably describe them as the annoying in your face over the top party guest who usually remembers coming to the party but not leaving.

Family Means Everything To Me

FACT: Most of us have a family and love most of the people in our family. When someone is always pointing out how much there family means to them, this is usually an indication that they don’t have much of a social circle out side their relatives or even any friends at all. This is usually also true for anyone who describes pets as family members.

People Say I Look Like…

FACT: This person was most likely told once that they look like a certain person once by someone they never met (but they’ll never forget). If you want to set-up your potential match for disappointment, this is a great tactic, but do you really want to set your self up for failure by providing an unrealistic expectation for you to live up too.

I’m Known To Be A Bit Of A Perfectionist

FACT: No true obsessive-compulsive person would admit to being one, just as a drunk never calls himself a drunk. If they were to admit their folly it wouldn’t be described as “a bit” of a perfectionist. That phrase usually indicates that this person is a bit of a control freak and will probably make the date awkward with there demands to the waiter or when you try and suggest a movie their not interested in seeing.

While I’m sure peoples intentions are perfectly innocent when their writing their online dating profiles, these phrases are a good indication that you should probably take a pass and find someone who is a little bit more forward in there description of themselves, If they really do exist.
